Wellcome becomes a funding partner of Our Future Health

Wellcome
Wellcome is a global charitable foundation with over 80 years of experience in supporting science to solve the global health challenges facing everyone. Recognising data and digital tools as being at the heart of modern science, Wellcome is focused on ensuring these technologies are designed, built and governed in trustworthy and effective ways. They support curiosity-driven discovery research transforming understanding of life, health and wellbeing, as well as global health challenges, including infectious disease, mental health and the impact of climate on health.
Funding charity
Wellcome is one of the leading health research charities who are providing valuable support to help develop Our Future Health. In this role, along with providing funding, they will sit on our Founders Board, a crucial part of our governance that brings together the charity and industry partners who are co-funding the programme.
Our Future Health’s funding charities work collaboratively, sharing knowledge, expertise and resources to accelerate progress in improving health outcomes for the entire UK population, including under-served communities who historically have not been well represented in research programmes of this nature.
Dr Raghib Ali, Chief Executive and Chief Medical Officer of Our Future Health, said, “We’re delighted that Wellcome has joined us as a funding charity partner. Wellcome has a longstanding commitment to reduce health inequalities and great expertise in working with communities to ensure that research meets their health needs. This very much aligns with our aims to include under-represented communities in our programme so our research can also help to tackle these inequalities. We look forward to working together to ensure that everyone benefits from new discoveries made using Our Future Health.”
Michael Dunn, Director of Discovery Research at Wellcome, said: “With its scale and detail, Our Future Health is an invaluable resource for health research. We look forward to working with the programme enabling more researchers to engage with it, ensuring it is an effective and trustworthy resource.
“With thoughtful design so that Our Future Health is reflective of the UK population, including communities who have been previously under-represented in research, it has huge potential to accelerate discovery science. By making deeper, richer insights into health and disease, we can find better ways to diagnose and treat conditions that helps us improve health for everyone.”
