MND Association becomes an affiliate charity of Our Future Health
Our affiliate charities are sharing their expertise in the prevention, early detection and treatment of disease with Our Future Health. By joining forces, the charities are also able to shape the programme to ensure it is fit to serve the research needs of a range of health conditions and diseases.
MND Association
MND Association is the UK’s leading charity for people with motor neurone disease (MND). The charity is focused on improving access to care, campaigning for people in the UK affected by the disease and funding ground-breaking research.
For example, the charity is funding a new trial platform called MND-SMART, which tests multiple potential treatments for MND and has already recruited over 1,000 participants to take part in clinical trials for these treatments.
The MND Association’s vision is for a world free from MND.
MND
MND is a life-shortening neurological condition. It damages the nerves that control movement and causes muscle weakness, which can affect movement, speech, eating, drinking and breathing. For some people, it also causes behaviour changes.
Every day, six people are diagnosed with MND, and each day six people die from the disease. There is no known cure for the disease and a third of people die within a year of their MND diagnosis. The MND Association aims to change this through improved research and care for everyone affected by MND.
Affiliate charities
Our Future Health is joining with many of the UK’s leading health research charities who are providing valuable support and expertise to help develop Our Future Health. They will make a big impact in allowing us to ultimately change the way we prevent, detect and treat diseases.
