Why are biological samples so important?

Biospecimens, particularly blood, will need to be transported from participating donors to a laboratory for analysis. Biospecimens are vital to our programme as they will help researchers to build a more comprehensive picture of health and wellbeing that will improve our ability to understand, predict, and prevent disease, enabling people to live longer and healthier lives.

A unique logistical and fulfilment challenge

Our Future Health biospecimens will be taken from clinical sites, such as hospitals and blood donation sites in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, and be transported to four laboratories. At these laboratories, the important work of carefully processing and analysing the samples will begin.

• chain of custody and auditability
• packaging requirements (UN3373)
• collection and drop off points across the UK
• interim storage/consolidation (hub & spoke) options
• reporting/tracking solutions
• temperature monitoring solutions
• kitting and fulfilment options
