Our Future Health welcomes two new affiliate charities
DEBRA
DEBRA is a national research charity and patient support organisation for people living with epidermolysis bullosa (EB), a group of incredibly painful genetic skin conditions that cause the skin to blister and tear at the slightest touch.
DEBRA funds research to find effective treatments for all types of EB and provides support to people living with EB to enhance their quality of life today. This support includes advocacy, information, and practical help at every stage of life. The DEBRA membership scheme includes holiday homes respite, financial grants, and bespoke events to support the EB community.
Prostate Cancer Research
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK. 1 in 4 Black men, 1 in 8 White men and 1 in 13 men of other ethnicities will be affected by this disease in their lifetime.
Prostate Cancer Research is committed to developing and delivering breakthrough medicines and treatments, working towards a more equitable world future where all people are free from the impact of prostate cancer. They have expanded the amount of research they fund five times over in four years, as well as launching a translational research arm which makes strategic investments in early-stage biotechnology companies and academic spin outs to help drive forwards innovations and bring new diagnostics and therapeutics to men faster.
Affiliate charities
Our Future Health is joining with many of the UK’s leading health research charities who are providing valuable support and expertise to help develop Our Future Health. They will make a big impact in allowing us to ultimately change the way we prevent, detect and treat diseases.
Dr Raghib Ali, Chief Executive and Chief Medical Officer of Our Future Health, said, “We’re delighted to be working with DEBRA and Prostate Cancer Research as affiliate charities of Our Future Health. Their expertise offers an exciting opportunity for us to work together to make discoveries that can prevent these diseases and help those affected by them.”
Dr Sagair Hussain, DEBRA Director of Research, said, “DEBRA is pleased to be a part of Our Future Health. As a patient support organisation for people living with a rare condition, we constantly face challenges in securing the support we need because of the relatively small number of people affected by EB, and this is true for many thousands of rare conditions. Data is key and it offers the potential to unlock future treatments for EB from treatments for other conditions, and vice versa, this is why we are pleased to be able to share our knowledge and expertise and we hope members of the UK EB community will also choose to join Our Future Health.
David James, Director of Patient Projects at Prostate Cancer Research, said, “We are excited to be partnering with Our Future Health as an Affiliate Charity. At Prostate Cancer Research we understand the importance of research to help improve the lives of people affected by this disease now and those who will sadly be affected in the future. We are supporting Our Future Health so that this research delivers real and lasting change for the men who need it most.”
