Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland becomes an affiliate charity of Our Future Health
Our affiliate charities are sharing their expertise in the prevention, early detection and treatment of disease with Our Future Health. By joining forces, the charities are also able to shape the programme to ensure it is fit to serve the research needs of a range of diseases and conditions.
Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland
Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland is the largest Scottish health charity, working to help people with chest, heart and stroke conditions and Long Covid live life to the full. The charity’s vision is to help ensure Scotland is a place where people with these conditions can live their lives well. Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland offers support to those recovering and campaigns for better services, as well as working with partners to develop new solutions to help those living with chest, heart and stroke conditions and Long Covid.
Chest, heart and stroke conditions
1.1 million people in Scotland are currently living with a chest, heart or stroke condition, or Long Covid which equates to 1 in 5 people. It’s estimated that, each day in Scotland, 41 people will have a stroke, 32 people will have a heart attack, and 16 people will be diagnosed with heart failure. Roughly 300,000 Scottish people live with coronary heart disease, which is the most common cause of death in Scotland. A further 180,000 are living with Long Covid.
Affiliate charities
Our Future Health is joining with many of the UK’s leading health research charities who are providing valuable support and expertise to help develop Our Future Health. They will make a big impact in allowing us to ultimately change the way we prevent, detect and treat diseases.

CHSS provides a free advice line, organise peer support groups, offer health checks in local communities, and campaign to improve policies and services.
CHSS is Scotland’s largest volunteering organisation with over 4,000 volunteers who help to deliver services, run 40 charity shops across Scotland, and raise vital funds to ensure people with our conditions can live life to the full.
